Reflecting how to build software and how to interact with the people around
By Topan Adi Pamungkas · Performance Marketing Manager · Gotrade (YC S19)
I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on how much has changed, both in how I build software and how I interact with the people around me.
When you feel stuck or stagnant in your career, it is usually a signal that you need to evolve. But real growth doesn’t just come from picking up new technical skills, it also comes from looking back and recognizing where you fell short. To anyone I’ve worked with or connected with, whether we’ve known each other for years or just met: if I ever made a mistake, miscommunicated, or let you down, I am genuinely sorry. Moving forward starts with owning up to those moments.
Over the last few months, I decided to stop staying stuck. Frontend development used to feel like an impossible wall for me. JavaScript was confusing, connecting logic to backends was frustrating, and most of my ideas stayed trapped in my notes.
Integrating AI agents into my workflow changed everything. Lately, I spend nearly 10 hours a day building alongside AI tools. Tasks that used to take weeks now take an afternoon.
That shift brought a clear realization: AI handles execution, but it doesn’t replace judgment or accountability. You still have to act as the pilot setting the direction, making the hard calls, and taking responsibility for the output.
If you are sitting on a tough career decision or feeling uncomfortable where you are, trust your gut and make the move before the window closes. Pick up the new tools, own your past mistakes, and give yourself enough time to adapt.

Performance Marketing Manager · Gotrade (YC S19)
Performance Marketing Manager at Gotrade (YC S19), running paid acquisition for the Indonesian market as sole contributor. I started in frontend engineering in 2013 and spent three years in technical support before moving into growth, which is why I read a tracking stack as fluently as a media plan. I also build XerAds, an AI-native growth platform. I am as comfortable debugging a tracking pixel as optimising a campaign budget.
